Hi all,W.uden & Sons did an excellent job. During this very sad time in our lives, everyone in the company we interacted with was extremely kind and made nothing difficult for us. Thanks to their help, we were able to say goodbye to our dear dad, husband, son, and brother with the honor he deserved. We all will face this moment one day, so if you need to lay a loved one to rest, W.uden & Sons comes highly recommended.
We recently entrusted W. Uden & Sons, Eltham branch, with directing our amazing dad’s funeral, and they were truly outstanding. From start to finish, they were incredibly professional, helpful, and friendly during what was such a difficult time for us.Their communication was exceptional, particularly from Denice, who was nothing short of world-class. She is the loveliest, most approachable person, and her kindness and support made navigating this process so much easier. And when Denice wasn’t available, Ben treated us with the same exceptional care and respect alongside the most comforting smile (even when we were all full of tears and emotion). On the day, Jack and the team went above and beyond, showing so much care and attention to detail. The celebrant they chose, Jo Bamford, was the perfect choice for our dad. She was absolutely incredible and captured him so beautifully; she truly was a blessing. The whole team made time for our entire family, whether it was the multiple visits to the chapel of rest or addressing any of our concerns. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them. You never expect to have to plan a funeral unless it’s inevitable, but I can say with certainty that us Carpo’s will always return to W. Uden & Sons. They are, without question, the best in the business, and we can’t thank them enough for everything they did for us.
A first rate service with minimal fuss and maximum attention to detail. Highly recommended
We received the warmest and most courteous service from W. Uden in Eltham after the death of my beloved wife, Bronwen. Denise, who was looking after us, helped us sorting out and organise everything around the funerals. Through her we were put in contact with the nicest, most empathic and diligent celebrant, Ms Christina Carty, and the ceremony was a true celebration of Bronwen, including a nice webcam which went to the friends and family of Bronwen in Australia and New Zealand. I was truly dreading all the events around the funerals, but with the help of my children and friends, as well as Uden staff, we celebrated Bronwen life the way she would have liked.
I was really pleased with the professionalism of Udens & Sons and would recommend them for this .I also feel they paid attention to detail. I would like to thank Lee especoally, who was so kind and really personalised the funeral to the family. Thank you Lee.I cant thank you enough for the little things you did e.g making up the little posy from one of the floral displays for me to keep.I would have no hesitation in recommending you all at Uden & Sons. Thanks
Superb service and respect from the first contact with Denice who made the process sympathetic and professional,. Special mention for the funeral conductor Dean Wilson. Thanks Dean you were different class and made the day so much easier.
W.Uden & Sons dealt with my lovely mums cremation with warmth, compassion and professionalism. I would especially like to thank Sarah and Dean whom I met in person and who were just lovely. I would highly recommend.
I cannot express enough how grateful my family and I are for the incredible service we received from W. Uden & Sons Eltham, during such a difficult time of grieving our dad.Throughout the funeral planning process, Sarah's professionalism and compassion stood out. She took the time to thoroughly explain all the available options, patiently walking us through every detail and she ensured that all our wishes were executed perfectly on the day of the funeral. It was clear that she genuinely cared about our family’s needs and was committed to making sure everything was handled with the utmost care and respect. On the day of the service, Stanley and his team were outstanding. They worked with professionalism, patience, and respect, offering the kind of support that went beyond what we expected. They were particularly attentive to my mother, who has a bad leg. The driver helped her fasten her seatbelt and Stanley showed her immense kindness by holding her had to support her when walking. These little acts of kindness made such a difference. They treated my late father as if he were a member of their own family. The dignity and respect they showed him was beyond words. The team's appearance was immaculate, and everything was coordinated flawlessly, which contributed to the peaceful and dignified farewell we were hoping for.At such a challenging time, organising a funeral can easily become overwhelming. The care and service provided by Sarah, Stanley, and their team relieved any additional stress, allowing us to focus on grieving and honouring our dad. What they did for us meant more than we could ever put into words. I highly recommend.
My family and I would like to thank W Uden & Sons for looking after our Mum. From our first meeting with Sarah she instantly put us at ease with her compassion and professionalism. Therefore a difficult conversation was made so much easier. On the day Stanley and his team were amazing. They were so respectful and professional. Their uniforms were immaculate and the beautiful Bentleys gleamed. It was a very difficult day but Udens helped to make everything go smoothly. It was a beautiful and fitting tribute to our Mum's life. Best wishes Mark and Karen
Uden & Sons were absolutely brilliant. They were sensitive, extremely helpful and generally supportive. All facets of the service they provided my family with were done with immense care and quality. Throughout the process we were always kept updated and the general planning was first class. I would have no hesitation in recommending their organisation.THANK YOU.

Meet the Family

If the death is expected and occurs at home:

  • Contact the deceased’s doctor and inform them of the death
  • Once the doctor has given permission to move the deceased, you may contact us and we will aim to be with you within 1-2 hours, to move the person who has died into our care
  • The doctor will issue the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death to the family representative for registration purposes

If the death occurs at a Nursing Home:

  • If a resident dies in a nursing home the GP (or qualified nurse on duty) can verify death
  • The GP will issue a medical certificate for the family to collect which will allow them to register
  • Most nursing homes will record the resident’s funeral wishes on their care plan. This will specify the chosen Funeral Director and whether the deceased wanted a cremation or a burial.
  • Once called, we will remove the deceased into our care

If the death occurs in Hospital:

  • If death occurs at the hospital, then the Doctors and Nurses will liaise with the hospital Bereavement Office, who will arrange all the appropriate paperwork on your behalf.

In cases of sudden and unexpected death:

  • If a death is unexpected then dial 999 and request an ambulance and police immediately, explaining the circumstances. In the event of an unexpected death occurring, then a coroner may become involved and may order a post-mortem to be carried out to establish an accurate cause of death. The coroner’s officer will keep you informed should this be the case and will liaise with us.

In cases where the Coroner is required to investigate the death, the deceased will be taken to a hospital or mortuary until a post-mortem examination is completed. If the death is expected, the funeral director will collect the deceased from the place of death and transport them to the appropriate chapel of rest, pending the arrangement of the funeral. Many large companies have central mortuaries or “hubs” where they store the deceased.

Here at W. Uden & Sons, each of our funeral homes are equipped with their own chapel of rest and have fully hygienic facilities for the care of your loved one. The only exception to this is our Dulwich branch, which shares these facilities with our branch at Camberwell.

Yes, once the deceased’s death has been certified, call your local branch and our experienced staff will guide you through the process of arranging the funeral. The only exception is when the Coroner has indicated that he intends to hold a full inquest into the circumstances surrounded the death.

Who can register a death?

Call the registry office to make an appointment – you will need to take the following with you:

  • Birth certificate & information regarding date of birth (if available) of the deceased
  • Some money to pay for copies of the death certificate required to administer the deceased’s estate.
