Highly recommendedDanny D. ★★★★★ Udens provided a thoroughly professional and dignified service for my sister-in-law's funeral. From my first meeting with Spencer to make the arrangements to the point where we dropped of for our funeral reception by Dean and his excellent team, the whole experience was impeccable. Thank youGraham W. ★★★★★ Having used W. Uden & Sons Sidcup for our Mum's funeral I can not praise them highly enough and they are worthy of 5 stars. Every member of the Uden team have been exceptional, from the first out of hours contact with Jack, the care in the handling of Mum on collection from home, and transfer to the Chapel in Sidcup, she was treated with such care, respect and dedication by the team.We would like to thank everyone at Sidcup including Jason, everyone on the day of the funeral, the drivers and pall-bearers who treated Mum so carefully and respectively. But I want to give a special thanks to Spencer who we mainly dealt with, he was so caring of both Mum and us as a family, he was professional, so supportive, kind and respectful with nothing being too much trouble. It was also Spencer who recommended Joanne who was our celebrant who officiated at Mums Funeral with a loving and personal service. We had a perfect day looked after by Spencer and his team, everyone was smartly dressed, the cars gleaming and everyone respected our Mum throught out.I would 100% recommend W. Uden & Sons and if Sidcup sets the standard, then no one would be disappointed with their service.Lauren W. ★★★★★ If I could give ten stars to Uden & Sons Sidcup branch, I would.Spencer and the whole Uden family were professional, supportive and nothing was too much trouble. They supported us every step of the way through a difficult time losing mum. Uden & Sons are exemplary in every way - professional, respectful and kind. From my first meeting with Spencer to arrange my late Dad’s funeral, it was all carried out with sensitivity and patience. Joanne, our celebrant, who officiated Dad’s service, was excellent and most helpful. Stanley (our conductor), the drivers and the pallbearers, looked immaculate, as were the beautiful cars. The day went perfectly, I cannot thank you all enough for your truly outstanding professionalism at Sidcup.Carol Brent (daughter)Christian S. ★★★★★ First class service from start to finish. I cannot express how much we appreciated the support and guidance we received arranging Mum's funeral. We were well looked after by Spencer who was patient, knowledgeable, kind and respectful when arranging what would happen on the day. He respected our wishes and helped us to personalise the day, ensuring we could plan the day exactly as we wanted. We were informed of all the choices and the prices were very competitive. Spencer regularly contacted us to let us know everything was in hand and dealt with all the other parties involved on the day (florist, crematorium, preacher etc), making sure everything went to plan. We also received a call the night before from Lee, who asked if we had any concerns and confirmed the plans of the next day, this really helped to put our minds at ease. Lee expertly directed the proceedings on the day and the other staff were professional, friendly and looked very smart. We had the Bentley cars so Mum could arrive in style and they were spotless. We appreciate the support and guidance that we received from W.Uden & Sons. They took care of mum, the family and everything else involved in giving Mum a lovely send off, it couldn't have gone better. I rate them 10/10 in all departments and recommend their services, especially if like me, you want to have your requests for the day to be carried out respectfully and profesionally, but without the stress of making sure everything goes to plan yourself. Many of my friends and family commented on how nice and professional the team were on the day and how posh our cars were! This is a heart felt thanks to all at W. Uden & Sons Family Funeral Directors Sidcuppaul J. ★★★★★ A great company to deal with. From start to finish everything was done in a kind thoughtful manner. This is the second time I have used the services of Udens. We dealt with Spencer who was extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Also Mathew who did the service for us was brilliant and helpful. At a time when it’s a sad occasion it’s great to deal with a company like this. Also thanks to everyone involved. Service was 101%js_loader

Our Packages

Having to make funeral arrangements whilst in the turmoil of losing a loved one can be highly stressful. Using the knowledge gained from decades of caring for families, we have introduced a range of funeral packages to help reduce the burden of all the decision making.

The packages include just about everything that you need for the funeral to go ahead, are really helpful and will fit the needs of many families, but also remember that we can tailor each service to be as unique as the person that you are remembering.

If the death is expected and occurs at home:

  • Contact the deceased’s doctor and inform them of the death
  • Once the doctor has given permission to move the deceased, you may contact us and we will aim to be with you within 1-2 hours, to move the person who has died into our care
  • The doctor will issue the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death to the family representative for registration purposes

If the death occurs at a Nursing Home:

  • If a resident dies in a nursing home the GP (or qualified nurse on duty) can verify death
  • The GP will issue a medical certificate for the family to collect which will allow them to register
  • Most nursing homes will record the resident’s funeral wishes on their care plan. This will specify the chosen Funeral Director and whether the deceased wanted a cremation or a burial.
  • Once called, we will remove the deceased into our care

If the death occurs in Hospital:

  • If death occurs at the hospital, then the Doctors and Nurses will liaise with the hospital Bereavement Office, who will arrange all the appropriate paperwork on your behalf.

In cases of sudden and unexpected death:

  • If a death is unexpected then dial 999 and request an ambulance and police immediately, explaining the circumstances. In the event of an unexpected death occurring, then a coroner may become involved and may order a post-mortem to be carried out to establish an accurate cause of death. The coroner’s officer will keep you informed should this be the case and will liaise with us.

In cases where the Coroner is required to investigate the death, the deceased will be taken to a hospital or mortuary until a post-mortem examination is completed. If the death is expected, the funeral director will collect the deceased from the place of death and transport them to the appropriate chapel of rest, pending the arrangement of the funeral. Many large companies have central mortuaries or “hubs” where they store the deceased.

Here at W. Uden & Sons, each of our funeral homes are equipped with their own chapel of rest and have fully hygienic facilities for the care of your loved one. The only exception to this is our Dulwich branch, which shares these facilities with our branch at Camberwell.

Yes, once the deceased’s death has been certified, call your local branch and our experienced staff will guide you through the process of arranging the funeral. The only exception is when the Coroner has indicated that he intends to hold a full inquest into the circumstances surrounded the death.

Who can register a death?

  • A relative
  • A person present at the death
  • The occupier (i.e. Matron, superintendent)
  • The person arranging the funeral

Call the registry office to make an appointment – you will need to take the following with you:

  • Death Certificate of the deceased
  • Medical card (if available) of the deceased
  • Birth certificate & information regarding date of birth (if available) of the deceased
  • Some money to pay for copies of the death certificate required to administer the deceased’s estate.
