My family and I would like to thank all of the team at Udens for the funeral of our much loved brother and uncle Barry. The whole team were so professional from the very beginning and comforted our family exceptionally. A special mention goes out to Charlie who went above and beyond to accommodate us and was very understanding throughout the process and also to Darrell who conducted the funeral with great professionalism and care which made the day so special to us. We would highly recommend Udens to anyone and everyone. We would also like to thank Jo Bamford, the celebrant, who was fantastic and made the day truly special. Thanks to all involved. The Hayhoe's
What an amazing funeral directors that were so professional and caring! The dignity, respect and attention to detail was outstanding. My dad’s funeral was so special because of this. Charlie was so helpful at West Wickham and Stan on the day did us all proud. Thanks so much all for everything.Sarah and family xxxx
I chose W Uden as they had been recommended by a friend who had recently engaged them to arrange a funeral. From my first meeting with Charlie up until the conclusion of the funeral, I found the staff helpful, informative and extremely professional. Nothing was too much trouble. Excellent communication.I would highly recommend this family business.
Whilst this is a service you would wish not to have to recommend, I certainly wouldn't hesitate to recommend W. Uden, West Wickham. They offered a highly professional service but with the human touch that is so needed during such a difficult time. Communication throughout was exceptional.
A huge thank you to all at Udens for the most perfect day yesterday. We said our final goodbyes to my mum and they were spectacular in every way. A personal thank you to charlie who initiated everything for us and organised the day to perfection. The cars arrived and Stanley was just superb an absolute gentleman and you can see he really cares about our day and couldn’t do no more! A special mention to Jo Bamford our celebrant. This is the third funeral she has taken for our family and yet again her kindness, her compassion and genuine care for all involved is why would only ever recommend and use her. Simply beautiful.
Through really difficult times Udens were a god send … I was thinking of 2 funeral directors to take care of my late beloved mother in her final days with us ! The instant i walked in it felt ‘right’.Charlie thankyou so much for all you did. Nothing was ‘too far ‘ or not dooable .. complicated by my mother’s culture and religion pre funeral days. They picked mum up rapidly which gave me great comfort. Listened to everything I said and needed … delivered everything I could ask for.The day of the funeral day was also so slick and executed to perfection. The drivers worked with dignity and respect and showed immense professionalism … so well presented and my mum would have been proud of them. The Bentley package was the least I could do for my mum and her love of posh cars. These are stunning and again I could feel her smiling …Sadly in life this may not be my last one to arrange and I will not hesitate to walk through the doors again if the need arises. Even if it’s my own !
There are many Funeral directors in South East London but none are even close to Udens. On mums passing, Andrew quickly arranged for mum to be collected, lee and Adam showed so much respect and compassion for my family, it will never be forgotten.Charlie took care of everything, taking the pressure off me, when arranging the funeral. The Funeral was led by Lee, so many people, at the funeral, commented on how smart he looked and how professionally he conducted the funeral. Lee even made 3 posies for my brother, sister and me, such a lovely touch.Thank you to everyone in Udens, including the bearers, who made the entire process so special.- Simply Superb
Charlie, Stan & The Uden team, were supportive, compassionate, and seamless on the planning as well as funeral day for my late father. Its a really difficult thing to select a funeral directors, but they were transparent, understanding, knowledgeable. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to someone else. They didn't miss a beat. Everything was planned and carried out our wishes with compassion, care, dignity and poise. I cant highly enough recommend Charlie, Stan and the rest of the Uden team. We are forever grateful for the care we received during our most difficult time. Thank you again.
Shortly after my father was discharged from hospital under the palliative care team, I phoned W. Uden & Sons and spoke at length to Charlie Uden, about the steps my family would need to take when we lost my dear dad. From the moment I first spoke to Charlie, through to when me and my family said goodbye to the team who oversaw my dad’s funeral, we couldn’t have been any happier with the service they provided to us.Not only did they treat my dad’s body with the utmost respect and dignity when they came to collect him, but their communication throughout what was one of the hardest times of our lives, was first class. We followed Charlie’s recommendation in respect of his choice of florist and printers (for the Order of Service) and were delighted with both.My family and I are so very grateful to Charlie and the rest of the team at W. Uden & Sons and would have absolutely no hesitation in using their services again.
We went with Udens through a friends recommendation and we were very pleased with the whole process. From the start with Charlie at West Wickham , who went through all the process to us and made us feel we could contact him anytime, answered any questions we had promptly and could visit mum in the chapel whenever we wanted. On the funeral day all the undertakers were immaculately dressed, cars were immaculately clean, the undertakers were courteous, and respectful, they made the day go without any worries and took control in organising our families into the church and where to go. I would recommend them again, they were great, thank you!

Our Packages

Having to make funeral arrangements whilst in the turmoil of losing a loved one can be highly stressful. Using the knowledge gained from decades of caring for families, we have introduced a range of funeral packages to help reduce the burden of all the decision making.

The packages include just about everything that you need for the funeral to go ahead, are really helpful and will fit the needs of many families, but also remember that we can tailor each service to be as unique as the person that you are remembering.

If the death is expected and occurs at home:

  • Contact the deceased’s doctor and inform them of the death
  • Once the doctor has given permission to move the deceased, you may contact us and we will aim to be with you within 1-2 hours, to move the person who has died into our care
  • The doctor will issue the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death to the family representative for registration purposes

If the death occurs at a Nursing Home:

  • If a resident dies in a nursing home the GP (or qualified nurse on duty) can verify death
  • The GP will issue a medical certificate for the family to collect which will allow them to register
  • Most nursing homes will record the resident’s funeral wishes on their care plan. This will specify the chosen Funeral Director and whether the deceased wanted a cremation or a burial.
  • Once called, we will remove the deceased into our care

If the death occurs in Hospital:

  • If death occurs at the hospital, then the Doctors and Nurses will liaise with the hospital Bereavement Office, who will arrange all the appropriate paperwork on your behalf.

In cases of sudden and unexpected death:

  • If a death is unexpected then dial 999 and request an ambulance and police immediately, explaining the circumstances. In the event of an unexpected death occurring, then a coroner may become involved and may order a post-mortem to be carried out to establish an accurate cause of death. The coroner’s officer will keep you informed should this be the case and will liaise with us.

In cases where the Coroner is required to investigate the death, the deceased will be taken to a hospital or mortuary until a post-mortem examination is completed. If the death is expected, the funeral director will collect the deceased from the place of death and transport them to the appropriate chapel of rest, pending the arrangement of the funeral. Many large companies have central mortuaries or “hubs” where they store the deceased.

Here at W. Uden & Sons, each of our funeral homes are equipped with their own chapel of rest and have fully hygienic facilities for the care of your loved one. The only exception to this is our Dulwich branch, which shares these facilities with our branch at Camberwell.

Yes, once the deceased’s death has been certified, call your local branch and our experienced staff will guide you through the process of arranging the funeral. The only exception is when the Coroner has indicated that he intends to hold a full inquest into the circumstances surrounded the death.
