What is an Order of Service?
This is a printed, personalised booklet that enables attendees to follow and participate in the funeral service. It can also be used as a keepsake for closer family and friends.
Why would I need an Order of Service?
Orders of service are helpful but they are not a necessity. They allow attendees to follow the service, see the words of hymns or poems, and provide details of charitable giving and any reception following the service. If you are having a small and intimate service with a handful of people, then it may be advisable to consider whether an order of service is required.
When should we contact a printer?
The printer can be contacted as soon as the funeral is arranged, but ideally once you have spoken to the Officiant and agreed the content of the service.
What information goes into an Order of Service?
Normally, an order of service would provide all the text required for someone to be able to follow the funeral service. This can include readings, poems, hymns and prayers, as well as details about the music being played and the names of the people speaking. You can also add a personal touch by including favourite pictures of your loved one in your order of service, and include any details about an invitation to a reception following the service or charitable giving.
Who designs the Order of Service?
The officiant will be able to advise on the structure of the service, and the printer will work in collaboration with you to develop a design that you are happy with. They will advise you on layout, photos and any personal touches that you would like included.
Is there any other literature or printing for a funeral I need to think about?
Not necessarily, but you may wish to consider having a picture of your loved one printed and framed to have on show during the service. You may also wish to have mass cards or funeral invitations printed.
Can we have a photo?
You can provide photos on both the front and rear covers as well as a montage of photos throughout the booklet.
What wording do you recommend to be shown on the back of the Orders of Service i.e. information about the wake and the donations to our chosen charity?
Generally, on the back of an order of service, people will have the details of any charities that are being supported, the location of the wake venue, and sometimes particular messages of thanks or appreciation to people or organisations that have helped their loved one in some special way.
How does the Order of Service get to the Funeral venue?
We would recommend that the orders of service are delivered to our branch, where we will arrange for them to be taken with our staff to the funeral venue, where they will be handed out or laid on the seats.Â
How much does an order of service cost?
Typically an order of service would cost around £80 for 80 copies.
Do you have any recommended printers?
Yes, we work closely with a lovely family run business called Spectrum Graphics. They’ve been caring for the printing needs of the families in our care for over 15 years. They also do all of our own internal printing. Their contact number is 020 8306 8169 and their website address is www.spectrumgraphics.co.ukÂ
