Just close your eyes and you will see all the memories that you have of me
Just sit and relax and you will find, I’m really still there inside your mind.
Don’t cry for me now I’m gone, for I am in the land of song.
There is no pain, there is no fear, so dry away that silent tear
Don’t think of me in the dark and cold. for here I am, no longer old.
I’m in that place that’s filled with love, known to you all, as “up above”.

If someone has died, Our Family is here to help you.
If I should die and leave you here awhile,
Be not like others sore undone, who keep
Long vigils by the silent dust, and weep.
For my sake – turn again to life and smile,
Nerving thy heart and trembling hand to do
Something to comfort other hearts than thine.
Complete these dear unfinished tasks of mine
And I, perchance, may therein comfort you.
The speaker asks their loved one not to be consumed by grief but to turn back to life, find strength, comfort others, and complete the speaker’s unfinished tasks. It suggests that continuing life purposefully can itself be a source of comfort and connection to the deceased.

For my sake – turn again to life and smile,
Nerving thy heart and trembling hand to do
Something to comfort other hearts than thine.

And I, perchance, may therein comfort you.
Under the wide and starry sky,
Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly die,
And I laid me down with a will.
This be the verse you grave for me:
Here he lies where he longed to be;
Home is the sailor, home from sea,
And the hunter home from the hill.
A short, powerful poem expressing acceptance and even contentment with death. The speaker declares they lived and died gladly, choosing their final resting place. The final lines provide famous metaphors for returning home after life’s journeys (‘home is the sailor…’, ‘hunter home from the hill’).
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
One of the most well-known and beloved Psalms, it uses the metaphor of God as a caring shepherd guiding and protecting his flock (the believer). It speaks of divine provision, comfort even in the face of death, and ultimate assurance of dwelling with God eternally. It’s a profound statement of faith and trust.

Warm summer sun,
Shine kindly here,
Warm southern wind,
Blow softly here.
Green sod above,
Lie light, lie light.
Good night, dear heart,
Good night, good night.
A very short, gentle verse asking nature’s elements (sun, wind, earth) to be kind to the resting place of the deceased. It’s a simple, tender farewell expressing love and wishing peace.

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
A gentle blessing wishing the departed peace and divine protection on their journey (‘until we meet again’). It uses imagery of nature (road, wind, sun, rain) to convey warmth and care, offering comfort through faith and tradition.
