They guided us through the planning process with patience and understanding, making what could have been an overwhelming experience feel much more manageable. Nothing was too much trouble, and their support was greatly appreciated by our family. On the day of the funeral, Callum conducted everything with dignity, kindness and professionalism. His calm and reassuring presence helped us through a very emotional day, and it was clear that he genuinely cared about ensuring Dad received the respectful and meaningful farewell he deserved. The entire team helped create a beautiful service that honoured Dad’s life perfectly. At a time when emotions were running high, it was a great comfort to know that every detail was being handled with such care and attention.Thank you all for your compassion, support and professionalism. Udens were extremely professional and respectful from my first call to the end. I can't recommend them highly enough. Andrea was enormously helpful. I have never organised a funeral before and they made everything so simple when we were obviously otherwise occupied. Thanks to everyone especially as I don't remember the names of those on the day, for which, forgive me.

As a family we have used their services for many years and they have been consistently efficient. Udena are the right choice if you wish to honour your loved ones.Udens we're kind, caring and professional. Nothing was too much trouble and if you need them too, they can provide contacts for flowers, order of service, minister which was so helpful. I was not in a position to research these and their contacts were excellent. But it was the staff at Udens who gave me an amazing service, helping every step of the way. On the day of the funeral the team were impeccably dressed and respectful. You did my Uncle Peter proud, I would not use anyone else, and would highly recommend them. Thanks you Bina, David Dean and the team.
W.Udens & Sons (Camberwell) have been professional and comforting in their approach during this very sad time. Bina (one of the funeral director staff) has a naturally caring nature and demeanour which is was very important when dealing with the death of a loved one. She didn't rush or force anything on us, but allowed us time to think and reflect. This meant the right balance was struck. Thank you for being sensitive to our needs.
Adam who looked after us was extremely helpful and made everything feel effortless from beginning to the end.
Fantastic service from start to finish. When navigating the loss of my Dad, I'm glad we chose Udens as our funeral director. Right from our initial meeting with Adam, through the celebrant we were paired with, to the funeral conductor and drivers that arrived on the day. They handled everything flawlessly, sensitively and with incredible respect. The cars were immaculate, the staff were very smartly dressed. They were also happy to drive a custom route for Dad's final journey.Whenever the next need for a funeral director sadly rolls around, I'd not hesitate to use Udens again. Thanks to all.

If the death is expected and occurs at home:

  • Contact the deceased’s doctor and inform them of the death
  • Once the doctor has given permission to move the deceased, you may contact us and we will aim to be with you within 1-2 hours, to move the person who has died into our care
  • The doctor will issue the Medical Certificate of Cause of Death to the family representative for registration purposes

If the death occurs at a Nursing Home:

  • If a resident dies in a nursing home the GP (or qualified nurse on duty) can verify death
  • The GP will issue a medical certificate for the family to collect which will allow them to register
  • Most nursing homes will record the resident’s funeral wishes on their care plan. This will specify the chosen Funeral Director and whether the deceased wanted a cremation or a burial.
  • Once called, we will remove the deceased into our care

If the death occurs in Hospital:

  • If death occurs at the hospital, then the Doctors and Nurses will liaise with the hospital Bereavement Office, who will arrange all the appropriate paperwork on your behalf.

In cases of sudden and unexpected death:

  • If a death is unexpected then dial 999 and request an ambulance and police immediately, explaining the circumstances. In the event of an unexpected death occurring, then a coroner may become involved and may order a post-mortem to be carried out to establish an accurate cause of death. The coroner’s officer will keep you informed should this be the case and will liaise with us.

In cases where the Coroner is required to investigate the death, the deceased will be taken to a hospital or mortuary until a post-mortem examination is completed. If the death is expected, the funeral director will collect the deceased from the place of death and transport them to the appropriate chapel of rest, pending the arrangement of the funeral. Many large companies have central mortuaries or “hubs” where they store the deceased.

Here at W. Uden & Sons, each of our funeral homes are equipped with their own chapel of rest and have fully hygienic facilities for the care of your loved one. The only exception to this is our Dulwich branch, which shares these facilities with our branch at Camberwell.

Yes, once the deceased’s death has been certified, call your local branch and our experienced staff will guide you through the process of arranging the funeral. The only exception is when the Coroner has indicated that he intends to hold a full inquest into the circumstances surrounded the death.
